# Prorated threshold: why your ceiling is not always 34

Not tax advice. Telework Tracker rounds the ceiling **down**.

## Someone asked: is 34 reduced for part-time work?

**Answer.** Yes. 34 is the reference ceiling for **full-time, full calendar year**. Occupancy rate and months under contract **multiply**.

## Formula

**Personal ceiling = 34 × occupancy rate × (covered months ÷ 12)**

Official example: 75% hired 1 October → 34 × 0.75 × 3/12 = 6.375 → **6 days** (rounded down).

## Worked examples (rounded down)

| Situation | Rate | Period | Ceiling |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Full-time, full year | 100% | 12 months | 34 |
| 4-day week | 80% | 12 months | 27 |
| Three-quarter time | 75% | 12 months | 25 |
| Half-time | 50% | 12 months | 17 |
| Hired 1 July, full-time | 100% | 6 months | 17 |
| Left 31 March, full-time | 100% | 3 months | 8 |
| Hired 1 October, 75% | 75% | 3 months | 6 |
| Half-time, left 30 April | 50% | 4 months | 5 |

## Someone asked: what if hours change mid-year?

Compute **period by period**, not an average rate. Example: 100% Jan–Jun (17) + 80% Jul–Dec (13.6) ≈ **30 days**.

## Traps

1. Proration shrinks the **ceiling**, not the days you might consume.
2. Travel and training outside LU eat the **same** quota.
3. The counter **resets each calendar year** — an incomplete year still is not 34.

The **social-security** threshold (% of time) does not use this day formula: [two counters](https://teleworktracker.app/en/blog/social-security-telework-threshold-cross-border.md).
